Top 10 Cutest Rabbit Breeds

Holland Lop Rabbit with Timothy Hay

Let me be honest and start this post off by saying ALL rabbit breeds are adorable! It’s just a fact. So please don’t get too upset at me if I did not include your favorite rabbit on my list. I am simply sharing my opinion of rabbits who check all the right cuteness buttons in my brain.

Below you will find a list of bunnies that I think are the cutest pet rabbit breeds around and the reasons why I picked them. Enjoy!

  1. Holland Lop

I must admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for Holland Lops because my husband and I own two males, Fred and George (yes they are named after the Weasley twins from Harry Potter). Holland Lops are many people’s idea of a cute rabbit, from their floppy ears to their furry little bottoms.

This breed originates from Holland, and was achieved by breeding a Netherland Dwarf and a French Lop together. Weighing a maximum of 4 pounds when full grown, Holland Lops are loved for their small bodies and cute faces. Known also for their sweet temperament, Holland Lops are a great breed to have as a pet even if you have children in the household.

  1. Mini Rex

The Mini Rex rabbit was first recognized as its own breed in the United States, and is popular for its velvety soft fur. This compact breed is known not only for their extremely soft fur, but the fact that this rabbit can have coats ranging in up to 20 different colors.

Mini Rex’s tend to have calm, easy-going natures, which makes them great pets for individuals who are new to owning rabbits. Weighing up to 4.5 pounds, these little guys can live up to 10 years if cared for correctly.

  1. Lionhead Rabbit

Even though the origin on the Lionhead rabbit is an ongoing debate, these little guys pack a punch of cuteness when you see them. Think of a cross between a rabbit and a lion and you will have a good idea of the Lionhead breed. These rabbits have a glorious man of fur that surrounds their heads that is considered to be a genetic mutation that went extremely well.

Lionhead rabbits are an excellent pet for both kids and adults, as long as they are feel safe and loved. This breed does require extra grooming due to all their fluffy hair, so make sure you groom them regularly.

  1. Californian Rabbit

The Californian rabbit obviously originates from California and was breed to produce a good meat and fur rabbit. These big guys can weigh up to 12 pounds and are recognizable by their white body and head, red eyes, and black ears, nose tail and feet.

I simply love their coloring because of the contrast between the white and black around their face, it makes them stand out. These beauties are also extremely friendly and calm, and they adore human attention.

  1. English Angora Rabbit

These fluffy rabbits are a little crazy looking, but loved all the more for it. With wooly fur from the tips of their ears all the way down to their toes, this breed is one of the oldest and most unique rabbit breeds in the world. English Angora rabbits look bigger than they are due to the amount of wooly fur covering their bodies. With a broad flat head and short ears with plenty of fur on their, English Angora’s are quite memorable.

Mostly used for wool production or showing, these rabbits require some special grooming care from their humans to help prevent their fur from getting tangled and matted. Requiring more care than other breeds, this breed thrives with human attention and form trusting bonds with their handlers.

  1. Jersey Wooly

As one of the most popular breeds, Jersey Wooly’s are loved for their low-maintenance care and super friendly attitudes. Their small stature allows them only to grow up to 3.5 pounds, which makes them the perfect small pet.

Known for being one of the cuddliest breeds, Jersey Wooly’s love to hang out in their handlers laps and are extremely calm and docile. They thrive best in indoor environments and can live up 10 years with proper care.

  1. American Fuzzy Lop

The result of a lot of breeding finally produced the adorable American Fuzzy Lop. This handsome breed is basically a Holland Lop that carries the wool gene, so it ends up looking quite a bit fluffier than your average Holland Lop. These little guys can weight up to 4 pounds and are known as “fuzzies” by most rabbit breeders.

American Fuzzy Lop’s are playful and active bunnies who enjoy attention from their owners, making them a great pet. Keep in mind these fluff monsters need to be groomed more than your average Joe due their wool coat.

  1. English Spot

The English Spot is the Dalmatian breed of rabbits. This spotted master piece is one of the best medium-sized bunnies to keep as a pet because of its outgoing and sweet personality. English spots have specific dark markings such as: a butterfly shaped spot on their nose, eye circles, cheek spots, a random chain of spots on their sides, and a strip down their back. From their beautiful coloring and wonderful temperament English Spots are one of the best pet bunnies to have.

  1. Harlequin Rabbit

The Harlequin rabbit breed is known as the “clown” of rabbits due to their unique colors and markings. These bunnies usually have two different colors in their coats that alternate side to side down their bodies, much like a clown who has their face painted two different shades. The body markings are either bands, bars, or a combination of both making them stand out from other bunnies.

Harlequin rabbits are out going and love to run around exploring their space. Weighing up to a max of 9.5 pounds these bunnies love to roam free and play as much as they can. Even though Harlequin rabbits are not small or mini in size, they are still great pets for family households with kids due to their patient personality.

  1. Flemish Giant Rabbit

Originating from Belgium, these gentle giants were originally breed for their meat and fur, but became popular for their docile and calm personalities. Flemish Giants can weight up to 4 pounds in just a few months, and can weight up to 22 pounds when they reach adulthood.

Flemish Giants are perfect for large pet lovers because they are so sweet and love to play. Just make sure you give them plenty of space to run around (like in your backyard)!

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I couldn’t agree more! These 10 rabbit breeds are in my opinion some of the cutest breeds due their uniqueness and personalities. Feel free to leave a comment and let us know what your cutest breeds of bunnies are!
